Before you book
-
No — the Menopause MOT is suitable for women in perimenopause too. If you're noticing changes in your body and you're not sure what's going on, this is a great starting point whatever stage you're at.
-
There may be, depending on your symptoms and what we're assessing. I'll always explain clearly what's involved and ask for your consent before anything happens. You are always in control of what we do and don't do in the appointment.
-
Absolutely — in fact the Menopause MOT is particularly valuable after gynaecological surgery. We can look at your pelvic floor recovery, exercise guidance and any ongoing symptoms.
-
Yes — I work with women with endometriosis and understand the physical impact it has. Please do mention it when you book so I can make sure the appointment is tailored appropriately for you.
-
Yes — you're very welcome to bring a partner, friend or family member for support. Just let me know when you book.
-
Yes. There is free on-street parking outside the clinic, making it easy to get to your appointment.
-
Yes. I am registered with selected private medical insurers, including Aviva, Vitality and WPA. If you’d like to use your insurance, please get in touch before booking so we can confirm your cover and guide you through the process.
-
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. If we’re assessing your tummy, pelvis or lower back, a sports bra or vest top and shorts or leggings are ideal.
-
Appointments take place at my private home clinic in Heaton Mersey. You’ll receive full directions before your appointment, and there’s free on-street parking nearby.
-
You’ll be seen by me, Susie Rasul, an experienced Women’s Health Physiotherapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. I specialise in supporting women through pregnancy, postnatal recovery, pelvic health and menopause.
-
Absolutely. Babies are very welcome at postnatal appointments and Mummy MOTs. I know arranging childcare isn’t always easy, so please don’t worry if you need to bring your little one with you.
-
We’ll spend time talking through your symptoms, your goals and your medical history before carrying out a thorough assessment. I’ll explain everything as we go and we’ll create a treatment plan that’s tailored to you.
-
No. An internal pelvic floor examination is never compulsory. If it would help us understand your symptoms, I’ll explain why I recommend it, answer any questions you have, and you’ll always decide whether you’d like to go ahead. Your consent is important throughout the appointment.
-
A Mummy MOT includes a detailed discussion about your pregnancy and birth, assessment of your posture, breathing, abdominal muscles (including checking for abdominal separation), movement, strength and pelvic floor where appropriate. You’ll receive personalised advice, exercises and a written report to help guide your recovery.
-
Most women book from 6–8 weeks after birth, but it’s never too late. I regularly see women months or even years after having their baby.
-
Initial assessments are usually around 60 minutes, giving us plenty of time to understand what’s going on and discuss a plan. Follow-up appointments are shorter and focused on your progress.
-
No. You can book directly with me without needing a referral from your GP.
-
If you have any relevant scan reports, hospital letters or test results, feel free to bring them along. Otherwise, just bring yourself.
-
Yes. Most appointments include a personalised exercise programme and practical advice to help you continue making progress between sessions.
-
No. I support women through every stage of life, including pelvic health concerns, musculoskeletal pain, menopause and general women’s health physiotherapy.
-
Not at all. Although many women book within the first few months after birth, a Mummy MOT can be helpful at any stage after having children.
Whether your youngest child is six months or sixteen years old, if you’re experiencing leaking, pelvic heaviness, abdominal separation, back or pelvic pain, or you’re preparing to return to running or the gym, a Mummy MOT can help.
-
Yes. A Mummy MOT is just as valuable after a caesarean birth as it is after a vaginal birth.
We’ll assess how you’re recovering, discuss scar healing and mobility, check your abdominal muscles, breathing and core function, and help you gradually rebuild your strength and confidence. If appropriate, I’ll also advise you on scar massage and exercises to support your recovery.
NOT SURE WHICH APPOINTMENT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
If you’re unsure whether you need a general physiotherapy assessment or a womens health appointment - just get in toch. Ill ask you a couple of questions and point you in the right direction before you book.
